                                Bring It In – Israel To Hold First Israel Sports Education Day in Washington D.C.
                                      Connecting Children to Israel Through Sports Based Youth Development

WASHINGTON, DC – On Sunday October 10th, 2010, coaches from Bring It In – Israel will be conducting a unique Israel education sports program at Adas Israel Religious School in Cleveland Park, for children from kindergarten to fourth grade. The program focuses on igniting a passion for Israel in the hearts and minds of young Jews through sports activities that emphasize teambuilding, life skills, and fundamental sports concepts. Participating children will learn Hebrew through the "Sports Ulpan" as well as hearing about the experiences of Israel sports educators who have coached and played on sports teams in Israel. Using sports as an educational tool in Hebrew School engages students through an exciting medium, encourages children to see their classmates as teammates, and fights the obesity epidemic by teaching them the value of a healthy mind and body.

Bring It In – Israel, founded by David Lasday, utilizes hands on sports volunteering in Israel to train young Jewish Israel educators. Lasday says, “Sports are a powerful tool to engage, educate, and build community. Bring It In – Israel endeavors to develop a new kind of Israel educator and role model.”

Joshua Bender, Director of Education at Adas Israel Religious School says, “There is no better way to build Jewish identity in children and a love for Israel than by reaching them where they are at and creating active learning experiences. Combining physical activity and sports with learning is a brilliant way to do this.”

Coaches David Lasday and Michael Vaughan-Cherubin each coached youth basketball in Israel for three years with PeacePlayers International, an organization that uses basketball to bring Israeli and Arab children together.

The day is made possible in collaboration with the The iCenter, an organization dedicated to igniting passion for and commitment to Israel in young Jews and making Israel a stronger and more integrated component of Jewish education.
